2023 1st Round Mock Draft

1. Carolina Panthers - QB Bryce Young, Alabama

The Carolina Panthers traded up to gain control of the draft. Early in the process, it appeared like Stroud or Richardson were the team's targets, but there appears to have been a shift in gear, and Young has emerged victorious. He is my number one quarterback, and I believe this is the right move because Young has established himself as the undisputed number one quarterback.

2. Houston Texans - EDGE Will Anderson Jr, Alabama

While attempting to make a trade with the Chicago Bears, the Texans were lulled to sleep. They had a chance to move up one slot to land their future quarterback, but with the Panthers' great smoke screen of Stroud or Richardson targets, the Texans felt safe and steadfast with their offer. The Texans must now face the music and either trade out of the second pick or go non-QB, since leaks from Houston indicate they are dissatisfied with the rest of the quarterback class. Ryans' desire to strengthen their defense is evident in their selection of a premium player at a premium position.

3. *TRADE* Tennessee Titans - QB CJ Stroud, Ohio State

Surprise, we have my sole trade in this entire mock, as the Titans swoop in to draft their future quarterback. The Titans do not appear to be ready to compete on paper, and with a new general manager in Ran Carthon, it is time to move on from aging players and begin the retooling process, which begins with acquiring their quarterback of the future.

4. Indianapolis Colts - QB Will Levis, Kentucky

I disagree with the selection, but the affection that the Colts' upper management appears to have for Will Levis is undeniable, unless Jim Irsay is putting on the biggest smokescreen of all time (which I doubt). The Colts have finally acquired a young quarterback to build their future around in the hopes of establishing some year-to-year consistency.

5. Seattle Seahawks - QB Anthony Richardson, Florida

The Seattle Seahawks are in position to once again surprise the draft, this time by selecting their quarterback of the future. Richardson is a freak athlete who will require some marinating. I couldn't think of a greater professional to impart quarterback knowledge than Geno Smith. This could be Richardson's greatest landing spot.

6. Detroit Lions - IDL Jalen Carter, Georgia

Dan Campbell is looking to improve the defense, and Brad Holmes is not afraid to choose the best player available in the draft. Campbell and Glenn are two people I trust to help the best draft pick become the greatest person he can be off the field. In that aspect, this squad should be unconcerned, and the impact will be immediate.

7. Las Vegas Raiders - EDGE Tyree Wilson, Texas Tech

The Raiders miss out on the quarterback and top edge rusher. They make a pivot and, like the old man, go with the underdeveloped freak athlete. They've spent a lot of time researching Wilson, and some think he's a better prospect than Anderson. But, as the Raiders know better than anyone, freak athlete does not equal excellent football player.

8. Atlanta Falcons - EDGE Myles Murphy, Clemson

The Falcons' selection is obviously challenging. They could go corner, but several of their offseason additions were made in a bid to close the deficit there, so I don't think they go round one. As I write this, Bijan is obviously interesting and a media topic, but Allgeier did a great job after he took over the job. I believe they will go with an edge rusher with some size and run stuffing potential, and I believe they will reach for Myles Murphy.

9. Chicago Bears - OT/OG Peter Skoronski, Northwestern

The bears decision is an easy one here. They grab the best offensive lineman in draft to protect their quarterback.

10. Philadelphia Eagles - EDGE Nolan Smith, Georgia

The Eagles are becoming older and more expensive. That doesn't mean much to them because their accounting department hides money as though they established Cayman Islands banking rules. No matter who their coach is, they work their way through the trenches and find themselves scratching that itch once more. interesting player, excellent selection.

11. *TRADE* Arizona Cardinals - OT Paris Johnson Jr, Ohio State

Finally, we arrive to the other end of the trade. The Cardinals go down in the draft to acquire more draft assets in order to rebuild this franchise. They strengthen the offensive trenches by selecting the class's second best tackle, who also provides some flexibility.

12. Houston Texans - CB Devon Witherspoon, Illinois

The Texans are in a trade down situation, but I don't see them getting a deal they like with none of the top quarterbacks available. Ryans switches to defense once more, giving Stingley a partner in crime and effectively stealing Witherspoon here. The Texans know they won't be competitive in year one, but this defense is looking terrific while they wait for the quarterback of the future to be drafted next season.

13. Green Bay Packers - WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State

The Aaron Rodgers era is over and the Jordan Love era is just beginning. The question is how short or long will it be. The team will give him support though in drafting the top wideout in the class. Love gets a safety net in JSN.

14. New England Patriots - EDGE Lukas Van Ness, Iowa

The Patriots are a bit of an unknown to me; they've done a good job of hiding what they'll do, they obviously need some wide receiver help, but they also appear far from ready to contend. They've given Van Ness a long look, and he screams Belichick to me. I'm not sure how much longer Bill will be the head coach, as it's clear that the reins will be passed over to Mayo soon.

15. New York Jets - OT Broderick Jones, Georgia

The Jets gets Rodgers and they must protect their new asset. I am not as high on Jones as literally everyone else, but he fits what they need and likely what they want to do.

16. Washington Commanders - TE Dalton Kincaid, Utah

This is Eric Bieniemy's team moving forward and he goes out and gets his next star tight end surrounding Howell with all the talent a quarterback could dream of.

17. Pittsburgh Steelers - CB Christian Gonzalez, Oregon

Tomlin and the Steelers get extremely lucky and get two corners to fall in their lap. They could go the legacy here, but they choose the better player in the end.

18. Detroit Lions - CB Joey Porter Jr, Penn State

The Lions double down on defense following with with a hard nose press corner. Last season, their defense let them down, and they've done a lot to rectify those weaknesses. It is hoped that this will be enough to get them into the playoffs. Williams' suspension does not help them, but Marvin Jones returns to provide support.

19. Tampa Bay Bucs - RB Bijan Robinson, Texas

I have low regard for this staff, and their decision-making is questionable. They are a long shot to trade up for a falling quarterback, but none did and they were unable to complete the move. Hooker may pique their curiosity, but he's too old for my liking, so the defensive coach goes and retrieves his bell cow.

20. Seattle Seahawks - EDGE Will McDonald, Iowa

The Seahawks like to surprise people with their first-round picks, and Richardson fits the bill. While I am lower on Will McDonald, he fits the bill of a Seahawks type pick in my opinion, and it may surprise some fans who haven't done extensive dives on the prospects.

21. LA Chargers - WR Jordan Addison, USC

The Chargers get a new weapon for Herbert, breaking with their tradition of choosing bigger players. Who knows how long Allen will be with the team; nevertheless, Herbert will have a slot option who is open on many of his snaps.

22. Baltimore Ravens - WR Quentin Johnston, TCU

The Ravens continue to provide weapons to Lamar Jackson. They could shift their focus to the other side of the ball at cornerback, but given their wide receiver room's injury history, they should hedge their risks and go after another, one who is outstanding after the catch.

23. Minnesota Vikings - CB Deonte Banks, Maryland

The Vikings have a significant hole at cornerback and wide receiver, and this is no slight to KJ Osborn, whom I have respect for. They miss out on Addsion's polished approach, but gain Banks, whom they did not expect to see. Wide receivers can be found with worth in rounds two or three.

24. Jacksonville Jaguars - S/NB Brian Branch, Alabama

The Jaguars are looking to reinforce their defensive backfield, and with all of the top outside corners already chosen, they turn to a player who can man the slot and play in the box.

25. New York Giants - WR Zay Flowers, Boston College

The Giants' depth chart appears to be in severe need of wide receiver help, as does Daniel Jones' new deal. They find themselves sprinting up Zay Flowers' card to the podium, fingers crossed.

26. Dallas Cowboys - TE Michael Mayer, Notre Dame

Last season, the Cowboys lost their tight end and were out of sync at times due to inefficient tight end performance. Jerry Jones is looking to change that by bringing in top-ten prospect Michael Mayer, who gives them the best of both worlds as a receiver and a blocker.

27. Buffalo Bills - IDL Calijah Kancey, Pitt

The Bills are rumored to be interested in Ed Oliver, and it doesn't escape me that a near-copycat type guy is sitting here on the board. Oliver and his future funds are relocated, and the cheaper replica is introduced.

28. Cincinnati Bengals - OT Darnell Wright, Tennessee

If this is how the board falls, the Bengals will shed tears of joy. Gifted with the highest ceiling of any right tackle in the draft, I believe he is a darkhorse to be a top three player in the draft if he can put it all together. He can do unteachable things; all you have to do now is teach him the teachable ones.

29. New Orleans Saints - EDGE Keion White, Georgia Tech

The Saints are in a position where edge talent is still higher than in most other positions, and they have a growing star who could someday take over for Cameron Jordan. When all is said and done, I believe the Saints will be delighted with this selection.

30. Philadelphia Eagles - IDL Mazi Smith, Michigan

The Eagles are a club that constructs for the future, and while there is some logic in doubling up at the edge rusher position, there is a clear need for productive youth in the interior of their defense. Mazi Smith alongside Jordan Davis and Nolan Smith is a fantastic mix. In all likelihood, the Eagles may prefer to trade out, but I don't see an obvious move to pull off.

31. Kansas City Chiefs - WR Cedric Tillman, Tennessee

The Chiefs finish the first round with a reach, which is okay for a club that recently won the Super Bowl. This draft lacks a genuine X-receiver at the top, and while Mahomes fared great without one, the Chiefs know they can do more offensively if they can add one. Cedric Tillman enters, whose injury this season is responsible for Jalin Hyatt receiving any attention at all.

2023 Player Profile Archive

2023 Player Profile Archives Quarterbacks Bryce Young QB Alabama When you watch Bryce Young, you can't help but think of Drew Brees because of the number he wears and the skill he has throwing the ball, while some of his mannerisms, ability to escape the pocket, and ability to throw on the move are almost a spitting image of Deshaun Watson. Bryce Young understands the mental side of the game. His time to throw has increased slightly this season, which is understandable given that he has lost some significant offensive talent. I still believe he has an elite capacity for moving through his progressions with a quick throwing motion that allows for good throw timing. He is also extremely accurate, doing an excellent job of aligning his head, body, and feet for precise ball placement. He demonstrates NFL arm strength when both set and on the run. The inconsistencies in velocity are the source of the majority of my concerns. I believe the problem is fixable and is caused by an inconsist...

2024 1st Round Mock Draft

1. Chicago Bears | QB Caleb Williams USC This pick was selected months ago but we know they'll go the entire time for no reason at all, we can move on... 2. Washington Commanders | QB Jayden Daniels LSU The Commanders start their new era with a new franchise quarterback. The hope is he can propel the team to relevance again. With how they've been hitting the headlines recently fans have to still be shaky of the new administration. 3. New England Patriots | QB Drake Maye North Carolina They fielded offers for certain, but in the final hours it seems they have settled on Maye if he falls. This is great for the franchise and Mayo who I am excited to see take over the team.  4. *Trade* Minnesota Vikings | QB JJ McCarthy Michigan Folks, we have a trade to announce! The final "top" quarterback on the board compels the Vikings to move up to stay relevant and the Cardinals are prepared to deal as we saw last year.  5. *Trade* Indianapolis Colts | WR Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio S...
