2024 Interior Defensive Line

#01 - Byron Murphy IDL Texas

Positives

+Large hands present throughout tape
+Incredible strength; has the power to walk back lineman
+High energy rusher with quick hands
+High-end positional athlete; he has an elite first step
+Stays low out of his stance enabling him to gain fantastic leverage
+When stalled he trust his ability to stay stout and balanced, so he drops his hips and slips in

Areas of Improvement

-Undersized, larger, naturally stronger interior offensive lineman can stall him out
-Lack of length limit his ability to win
-Limited run stop attempts

Quick Hit

Blown away by Murphy's game. To me he has everything you went from your defensive interior guys. High energy, physical and athletic force. He is going to make plays against the run and the pass.

Grade: (92.35) - 1st Round Grade

#02 - Jer'Zhan "Johnny" Newton IDL Illinois

Positives

+Fantastic first step that allows him to slip past slow reacting lineman
+Active motor witch active hands
+Combines first step with excellent swim/club move
+Tape has moments where he is able to gain separation even at his length
+High run snap count even at his size shows what the coaches though of his abilities
+High end football intelligence

Areas of Improvement

-Limited pop in hands
-Inconsistent pad level does not help his limited pop and arm length, there is some struggle in his ability to drive lineman backwards
-Undersized with poor arm length

Quick Hit

Johnny Newton is a swift moving defensive tackle who plays hard and with great intelligence. It is his short area athletic ability and the football intelligence that allows him to overcome some positional issues and make him a three down player.

Grade: (88.175) - 2nd Round Grade

#03 - Ruke Orhorhoro IDL Clemson

Positives

+High ceiling physical traits
+Great size with top positional arm length; he has lean frame too, certainly can put on more mass
+High end athlete for position
+Quick first step for pass rusher who relies on athletic ability to get penetration
+Powerful

Areas of Improvement

-Needs to play with better sense of urgency
-Would like added mass even if it reduces his athletic ability a small amount
-Needs to develop pass rush moves and win with more than pure physical traits

Quick Hit

Everyone says bet on athletes on the defensive line, with the abilities Orhorhoro has at his size its a no brainer to go and get this guy on your team. He's unrefined but has found a lot of success in crowded room at Clemson. Potential is very high for him.

Grade: (87.25) - 2nd Round Grade

#04 - Michael Hall Jr. IDL Ohio State

Positives

+Good length and large hands in average size
+Range
+High end quickness
+Quick hands

Areas of Improvement

-Struggles to stack and shed consistently
-Lacks pop and push against larger mass
-Can create pressure but struggles to finish
-Penalties

Quick Hit

Hall is a nimble defensive tackle who makes the most of his length and quickness to disrupt the run and pass. Halls production isn't where I'd like to see it but I have belief in his skill, athleticism and tape to produce at the NFL level.

Grade: (83.475) - 3rd Round Grade

#05 - T'Vondre Sweat IDL Texas

Positives

+Massive individual, takes up a lot of space
+Great power
+Solid mass keeps him planted, great anchor
+Elite length and massive hands
+Quick hands and club move
+Good pad level for size
+Plays passing lanes

Areas of Improvement

-Limited athlete, play really only happens in phone booth area

Quick Hit

Sweat is a massive individual who will enter a team and be a force of run stopper. If he is on the field teams will have to game plan against him and that will allow other to benefit. Sweat will make a living off of doing the dirty work, but his effect in the passing game cannot go understated either. The limited athletic ability is what drives him down my board.

Red Flag: According to Dane Bugler Sweat apparently had some off the field concerns from teams, made promises those days where behind him. Sweat was arrested for a DWI 3 weeks before the draft.

Grade: (82.45) - 3rd Round Grade

#06 - Brandon Dorlus IDL Oregon

Positives

+Good Length
+Good get off
+Violent player; has some serious heavy hands
+Has the power to drive and the anchor to remain in good positioning

Areas of Improvement

-More limited athlete than testing suggest
-Lack of counter rush move, struggles to finish the rush
-Inconsistent pad level and anchor lead to struggles against the run

Quick Hit

Violent players (in the good sense) always have a place in my heart. Dorlus brings that he just needs to clean up the technical side of the game to bring it all together.

Grade: (81.35) - 3rd Round Grade

#07 - Kris Jenkins IDL Michigan

Positives

+Great length in average sized defender
+Good positional speed
+Quick off ball
+Low pads and shots hands quick, first to contact and establishes good extension and leverage

Areas of Improvement

-Struggles to turn weight room strength to on field power; he can struggle to push the pocket with a bull rush
-Pass rush can lack a plan, poor finisher
-limited run stop opportunities

Quick Hit

Jenkins has all the traits you could want in an interior defender. Coaches will want him to turn all this talent into skill.

Grade: (81.275) - 3rd Round Grade

#08 - Braden Fiske IDL Florida State

Positives

+Really good athlete; he has a quick first step
+High energy guy, gets second wind when he finds his opening
+Quick hands

Areas of Improvement

-Really poor length
-Struggles to play with power
-Ineffective pass rush
-Anchor can be hit or miss

Quick Hit

High energy guy who knows his limitations as a rusher. Production and early success is going to be heavily dictated by landing spot.

Grade: (80.25) - 3rd Round Grade

#09 - Maason Smith IDL LSU

Positives

+Elite length
+Good positional size
+Solid athlete for size
+Quick hands and feet

Areas of Improvement

-Penalties
-ACL injury zapped his abilities in his recovery play year resulting limited production
-Lack of power
-Inconsistent rush plan

Red Flag: 2022 ACL which seems to have had a great affect on abilities one year out.

Grade: (69.525) - 7th Round/PFA Grade

#10 - Khristian Boyd IDL Northern Iowa

Positives

+Has walk back power potential
+Utilizes swim/club move
+Will go after ball carrier near sideline
+Quick off ball, much better on field than testing suggest
+Highly intelligent run defender

Areas of Improvement

-Competition level
-Can get too tall
-Length is an issue on tape

Grade: (68.8) - 7th Round/PFA Grade

#11 - Fabien Lovett IDL Florida State

Positives

+Elite length and hand size
+Shows fine linear movement
+Well balanced defender

Areas of Improvement

-Underdeveloped pass rusher
-Limited lateral movement
-Near zero explosive ability

Grade: (66.55) - 7th Round/PFA Grade

#12 - Mekhi Wingo IDL LSU

Positives

+Good lateral mobility
+Fine explosiveness
+Athleticism has allowed him to find success as a pass rusher

Areas of Improvement

-Poor run defender
-Consistently forgoes rush lane integrity
-Did not see the desired power or leverage

Grade: (64.625) - 7th Round/PFA Grade

2023 Player Profile Archive

2023 Player Profile Archives Quarterbacks Bryce Young QB Alabama When you watch Bryce Young, you can't help but think of Drew Brees because of the number he wears and the skill he has throwing the ball, while some of his mannerisms, ability to escape the pocket, and ability to throw on the move are almost a spitting image of Deshaun Watson. Bryce Young understands the mental side of the game. His time to throw has increased slightly this season, which is understandable given that he has lost some significant offensive talent. I still believe he has an elite capacity for moving through his progressions with a quick throwing motion that allows for good throw timing. He is also extremely accurate, doing an excellent job of aligning his head, body, and feet for precise ball placement. He demonstrates NFL arm strength when both set and on the run. The inconsistencies in velocity are the source of the majority of my concerns. I believe the problem is fixable and is caused by an inconsist...

2024 1st Round Mock Draft

1. Chicago Bears | QB Caleb Williams USC This pick was selected months ago but we know they'll go the entire time for no reason at all, we can move on... 2. Washington Commanders | QB Jayden Daniels LSU The Commanders start their new era with a new franchise quarterback. The hope is he can propel the team to relevance again. With how they've been hitting the headlines recently fans have to still be shaky of the new administration. 3. New England Patriots | QB Drake Maye North Carolina They fielded offers for certain, but in the final hours it seems they have settled on Maye if he falls. This is great for the franchise and Mayo who I am excited to see take over the team.  4. *Trade* Minnesota Vikings | QB JJ McCarthy Michigan Folks, we have a trade to announce! The final "top" quarterback on the board compels the Vikings to move up to stay relevant and the Cardinals are prepared to deal as we saw last year.  5. *Trade* Indianapolis Colts | WR Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio S...
